Understanding Hearing Loss: When to Seek an Assessment

Hearing loss often develops gradually, which makes it easy to overlook. Many people first notice it when family members comment on the television volume, or when conversation in noisy rooms becomes difficult to follow.

Common signs include asking people to repeat themselves, feeling that others are mumbling, and a persistent ringing in the ears (tinnitus). If any of these sound familiar, a hearing assessment is a sensible first step.

An assessment is quick, painless and non-invasive. It helps your specialist understand the nature and degree of any change, and whether further investigation, monitoring or support such as a hearing device is appropriate.
